Our second Matilda, and a pretty spectacular cast with an impeccable provenance, awaited us thanks to arrangements made by the collection manager Laura Fitzpatrick, who accommodated us at the very special Tavitian collection. This work, which retains the freshness of the clay model and traces of the casting process (i.e. mold lines) more than any of the versions we have studied, has served as a baseline in our understanding of the extent to which alterations are made to a wax inter-model.
